South Street Seaport, NY to West Windsor, NJ

The skies were beautiful as Team NJ began greeting the public on the second day of the festival at South Street Seaport, NY. It was an extremely busy day on Pier 17 because of Mother's Day, so that provided more of a means for the public to view our display.  Patrick Szary (Rutgers University-CAIT) said, "There has been great interest in our two vehicles today and it is quite exhilarating." It was also the second day of Technical Testing for our first generation vehicle, the NJ Venturer.

Today's Sunbeam newspaper of Salem County interviewed Kimberly Martin (CAIT-Rutgers University), an Elmer, NJ native on various aspects of the vehicles.  Ms. Martin provided the reporter with a general overview of what hydrogen powered electric vehicles are like. The one-hour interview covered many interesting details about both projects. Ms. Martin said, "Interviewing for my hometown newspaper was very exciting and I'm so happy everyone back at home will become aware of my involvement in this year's Tour De Sol and this type of technology."

The television station, UPN 9 taped some footage of our two vehicles during the day for a segment that would air on the news.

In the middle of the afternoon, the official starting ceremony commenced with MC, Warren Leon, Executive Director of NESEA leading the way. Dr. Louis Calcagno, Assistant Commissioner, NYCDOT and William Valention, President, NYSDERA were some of the people on hand during the ceremony which would lead the vehicles to their first stop on the Tour De Sol.  The vehicles arrived in West Windsor, NJ in the early evening in preparation for the Grover Middle School event on Monday morning.
