May 12

New York Hall of Science, Queens, NY to South Street Seaport, NY

The day began early Friday morning. Team NJ was scheduled to meet at 11 a.m. at the New York Hall of Science in Queens, NY for display of the NJ Venturer.   After Team NJ set up the display, a myriad of questions were asked by eager students ready to learn about the vehicle.  They were asked to answer as many questions posed by NESEA as possible.  Their exuberance and eagerness to learn about what makes our vehicle work started the Tour De Sol off on a high note. Walkie talkies were distributed, and team cellular phones as well as phone lists were distributed.

Due to prior obligations, the CAIT-Rutgers University contingent arrived in New York City at 6:00 p.m. Upon our arrival at the South Street Seaport, we found the charging station, and several other groups competing in the tour.  The group that arrived earlier in the day and attended the event in Queens hadn’t arrived yet.  Upon exploration of the surroundings, it was found that the demonstration site was about two blocks away.

For dinner, the group ventured to nearby Pier 17.  After discussing the project, the group was ready to end the day.  The next day was the start of a two-day public festival at the Seaport and we needed to be well rested for the technical testing.  See you tomorrow.
